Book Week Waitlist Terms

books.com.au is giving away A$5 million of personalised stories — a free personalised digital story for every eligible person who claims one when the platform opens, up to 500,000 stories, each valued at up to A$10 (comparable retail, not cash). These Terms cover joining the Book Week waitlist now. A separate claim process will apply once the platform opens.

1. Who can join

You must be an Australian resident and 18 years or older to join this waitlist. You join as an adult — either as the parent or guardian who will later claim a story for a child, or as an adult creating a story for yourself or as a gift. We do not collect any information about a child at the waitlist stage.

2. What joining the waitlist does — and doesn't — mean

Joining the waitlist registers your interest and email address only. It does not itself allocate you a story, and it does not consume any part of the 500,000-story cap. We will email you when books.com.au opens for story creation — currently targeted for Literacy Day, 8 September 2026. This date may change, and joining the waitlist does not guarantee a story will be available to you when it does.

This target date is a representation about a future matter. Under Australian Consumer Law (s 4), we're only permitted to state it if we have reasonable grounds for believing it to be achievable at the time we say it — if we don't, the statement is treated by law as misleading, and it's on us to show those grounds, not on you to disprove them. We state this date because we believe, on reasonable grounds, that we can deliver on it. If our plans change, we will update the date here and notify waitlist members, rather than let this page overstate our readiness.

4. Not a game of chance

This is a free promotional offer, not a lottery or prize draw. Stories are allocated automatically to eligible claimants on a first-come basis once the platform opens, up to the 500,000 cap. There is no random draw, no element of chance, and no "winners" — everyone who claims a story while the offer remains open receives one.

5. Fair use and fraud prevention

We may limit sign-ups per email address or household, and we may decline or void any sign-up or later claim we reasonably believe is fraudulent, duplicated, or made by a bot. Suspicious sign-up patterns may be reviewed before any story is created.

6. Your information

Joining the waitlist is governed by our Privacy Policy. In short: we collect your email address only, we don't collect anything about a child at this stage, and marketing is optional and separate from joining the waitlist.

7. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will take reasonable steps to notify waitlist members before it takes effect.

8. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria and of the courts competent to hear appeals from them. Nothing in this clause limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be lawfully excluded.
